Finding Their Way: A Snapshot of Immigrants on the Central Coast

A compelling short film that follows the story of an immigrant couple navigating life in a new country. As they encounter challenges and triumphs, the film also serves as a series of informational videos, providing vital resources for immigrants and other vulnerable communities. Each episode offers guidance on accessing services like healthcare, legal aid, and education, empowering viewers with the tools they need to thrive. This unique blend of storytelling and practical advice makes this film both inspiring and informative, shedding light on the resilience and strength of immigrant families.

Funded by the City of San Luis Obispo’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion High Impact Grant and produced by SLO County UndocuSupport in partnership with multiple local service-providers and featuring indigenous Mexican actors, this film is a unique window into the lives of a growing number of immigrants and their struggles and strengths as they make their new lives here on the Central Coast.


Program:

  • 4:00 PM – Doors open & optional red carpet photo op
  • 4:30 PM – Welcome & acknowledgements
  • 4:45 PM – Film screening in Mixteco
  • 5:30 PM – Mingling and opportunity to talk with actors & director
  • 6:00 PM – Event ends

Check-in:

Please check in at the Registration Table to get a name tag, program, interpretation equipment if needed for any monolingual Spanish-speaking guests, and ticket for 1 free small popcorn per person, courtesy of our event sponsor, SESLOC.  The event is free so you can skip the box office.  You will also not be required to show your ticket confirmation to anyone.

Parking:

The closest parking is the Palm Street Parking Garage located at 842 Palm Street directly across the street from The Palm Theater.  Parking is $2 per hour & electronic payment ONLY is accepted.  Be prepared with your vehicle license plate number when you pay.  Additional overflow parking is available at the Morro/Palm structure on 191 Palm St.

Suggested Dresscode:

As a reminder, the suggested dress is “multiculturally elegant,” but please feel free to come in whatever makes you feel like your best self!
