City after city, country after country, locals continually urged him to attend the local farmers’ markets, although he was hesitant, baffled by the unconventionally high interest in local markets.
While visiting San Luis Obispo, Will McGough finally “took the bait.” His SLO experience left him in awe as he perused the bustling streets filled with vendors and visitors. When he turned the corner onto Higuera Street, he discovered a line of barbeque trucks with massive Santa Maria grills, “roaring and crackling” with the “smell of burning oak in the air.” Crowds swarmed around the food vendors, eagerly awaiting the tri-tip sandwiches—a SLO specialty.
