Crackerjacks in hand, my boyfriend and I were ready for some summer night fun at SLO Blues Baseball Game. Instantly, there was a festive atmosphere with Bluebelle, the mascot, welcoming us, fly balls soaring and children sprinting on the grass to catch their trophy for the night!
As a summer collegiate baseball club, SLO Blues are part of the California Collegiate League with games from late May to early August. All players are currently college athletes with a handful from Cal Poly. We cheered on our home team from field side seats as they challenged the South Bay Saints.
For food, SLO Blues’ Snack Shack sells the standard concession foods but their WOW factor item is the legendary Bacon Pizza Dog, a hot dog topped with pizza sauce and pepperoni then wrapped in bacon! Enticing but a bit overwhelming, I picked up a hotdog instead, which was still ballpark delicious! In addition to SLO Blues’ Concession, Rib Line serves baby back ribs, mac and cheese, tri-tip sandwiches, and more.
As a newbie to a SLO Blues’ games, I made the mistake of purchasing full priced beers minutes before the Blues got a run. Then moments later, the announcer proclaims, “when the Blues score, you score!” which means for the remainder of the inning, all Beer Trailer beverages are half priced – woohoo! So once the Blues hit home plate, adults go running – quite a sight to be seen!
Overall, SLO Blues Baseball offers fun and affordable entertainment with free tickets for kids under 12 and $6 for general admission. The expansive lawns allow for groups to set up camp with blankets and lawn chairs while the children can run around and play in the bounce houses at Kid’z Zone sponsored by Teaberry.
Although SLO Blues season is wrapping up in early August, keep them on your radar for things to do in San Luis Obispo next summer! Blues Baseball games provide enjoyment for all ages and adds a dash of fun to your SLO summer nights.
