A Well-Balanced Fall

Posted September 25

Temperatures may be dropping but this fall, SLO is the place for some outdoor wellness adventures. As SLO City Farm continues to harvest produce for locals in SLO, like it’s delicious heirloom tomatoes, places like Brookshire Farms are getting ready to welcome everybody for pumpkin picking and farm adventures — watch for updates here! But there’s more to a well-balanced fall than just a few gourds!

For anyone spending a few days and exploring the town, be prepared for an experience that will remind you of the summer that seemed to escape all of us this year.

Take a dip

For a bit of relaxation, it’s not too late to take a dip in one of SLO’s outdoor hotel pools. Hotel Cerro, Hotel SLO, and The Kinney SLO all offer guests incredible options for lounging. Sitting poolside and taking in California’s warming rays will melt away any blues about leaving summer behind.

Embrace some of the best surf of the year and hit the waves. Stop by Moondoggies or Central Coast Surfboards to get the inside scoop on the breaks nearby and pick up some surfing accessories for a day on the beach. It’ll be the perfect rush of salt air to get you ready for some outdoor dining and drinks back in SLO afterwards.

Cozy up

If it feels just a bit too crisp for some water activity, lean into it with a cozy mug of something quirky from any of the coffee shops in San Luis Obispo. Bring a book, grab a table outside, or stroll with a takeaway cup of something delicious.

Kin Coffee Bar, for example, serves up a creative matcha latte. Active Coffee Co. is a newcomer that tops some drinks with its signature homemade cotton candy. Scout’s locations are both open for takeout, including their delectable Scout cookie. Nautical Bean specializes in its “Nutty Bean” coffee that pairs perfectly with cool temperatures on a crisp afternoon.

Take a hike

While a relaxing coffee works for some, others find wellness in reconnecting with nature, and SLO has the perfect solution. There’s something about hiking boots that just feels like autumn. Hitting the trails around SLO, breathing in the crisp air, taking stock of the leaves as they change colors— how much more relaxing could it get?

SLO offers some of the best hiking trails on the Central Coast. Check out the plateau at Terrace Hill for great views of the city, or hit the trails of Laguna Lake for some views while getting in your steps on the 2-mile loop.

No matter the path to balance, visitors to San Luis Obsipo will find it this fall as long as you do it safely and responsibly. No balancing act is complete without a mask and some social distancing. SLO is ready for you, so be sure to return the favor.
