If you’re looking for a fun and meaningful way to connect with some of the world’s rarest animals, don’t skip a visit to the Central Coast Zoo in Atascadero. Formerly known as Charles Paddock Zoo, this local gem is home to approximately 100 species from around the world and is the only zoo on the Central Coast accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the gold standard for excellence in animal care and welfare.
The Central Coast Zoo is also the only zoo in San Luis Obispo County and is home to animals that are part of globally managed programs to preserve species and their habitats. Visitors can expect to encounter a wide variety of fascinating animals including red pandas, fossa, spider monkeys, binturongs, lemurs, tortoises, flamingoes, and many more.
Make a day of it by exploring the beautiful Atascadero Lake Park, where five acres of scenic lawns, play structures, walking paths, and lakeside paddleboats provide the perfect setting for outdoor fun.
