What’s that smell of herbs and spices? The Secret Garden Organic Herb Shop, located at 740 Higuera Street, has every type of tea you could possibly imagine. As you walk through rows and rows of loose leaf tea jars, it feels like the wand shop in Harry Potter; let the tea choose you.
Established in 2004, the Secret Garden Organic Herb Shop offers specialty blends of white, green, black, red, and herbal loose leaf teas in addition to spices galore. Utilizing the freshest ingredients, this quaint shop focuses on small batch blends and promotes overall health and well-being within the community. Amongst the spices and teas, the shop also showcases artistic tea-ware and other tea-related products made by local community members.
The owner of the Secret Garden, commonly known as “The Tea Lady,” has 12 years of experience studying nutrition and herbs. She is a strong believer in folk medicine and alternative healing, which her store clearly represents. Some of her herbal remedies and caffeinated blends include the Namaste blend, flu relief, and energy plus.
Part of what makes the Secret Garden Organic Herb Shop so magical is the journey to find it. It’s hidden away from the bustling downtown, adjacent to the San Luis Creek and Novo Restaurant. Surrounded by a garden and tucked away from the main street, this is a must-see hidden gem of San Luis Obispo.
I personally love trying new types of tea, but have never owned any loose leaf myself. The Secret Garden Organic Herb Shop is nearly impossible to leave without trying (and purchasing) a new flavor of tea, so it’s safe to say I left with a variety of loose leaf tea blends.
This enchanting spot will provide you with a sweet serenity you don’t want to miss out on. I hope you visit the Secret Garden soon!
