Concerts in the Plaza in San Luis Obispo
Find My HotelSLO Life Tip #43: Party in the Plaza. Find your groove at free Concerts in the Plaza every Friday night, all summer long, right in the heart of downtown.
Where Summer Finds Its Rhythm
Summer weekends in San Luis Obispo always have a way of finding their rhythm. And for thirty years running, the opening note has been Concerts in the Plaza, bringing live music to downtown SLO. Think twelve straight Fridays of regional and nationally touring artists, local eats and all the room you need to let your dance moves do the talking.
Every concert is free, family-friendly and open to anyone who shows up ready to live the SLO Life—one song, dance, sip or bite at a time.
Free Friday Fun in Mission Plaza
Concerts in the Plaza returns to Mission Plaza every Friday, June 19–Sept. 4, 2026, with opening acts kicking off at 5 PM and headlining performances from 6–8 PM.
Concerts in the Plaza has been bringing live music to downtown San Luis Obispo since 1995, when it started as a single small show each month in Mission Plaza. Three decades later, it’s the largest free concert series on the Central Coast and a Best Community Event winner in San Luis Obispo County.
After thirty seasons, the series has grown up to include a full stage, two bars and two acts a night. But the spirit has stayed solidly oh-so-SLO with free entry, family-friendly fun and long golden-hour evenings in the heart of downtown.

Tune Up Your Taste Buds
Outside food is welcome, so feel free to pack your own picnic. Or keep things easy (and delicious) and get your hands on hot, grab-and-go goodness from Woodstock’s Pizza and Quesadilla Gorilla, both set up right inside Mission Plaza, so you can get a bite without missing a beat.
If you get thirsty, downtown SLO has you covered with award-winning craft brews from Firestone Walker Brewing Company, wine from Talley Vineyards and fresh-pressed pours from SLO Cider Co., including a tangerine collaboration made specially for the 30th season.
All drinks come in reusable cups or aluminum cans. If you have your own favorite non-glass vessel, feel free to BYO. Need a new go-to? Souvenir cups make a nice little keepsake from a milestone celebration you can raise a glass to for years to come.
Stay In Tune: Book a SLO Stay
Then comes your encore. Because when the last chord fades, your SLO weekend is just getting warmed up. Book a stay in downtown San Luis Obispo and make the whole visit effortless.
After letting loose on Friday night, wake up to an easy Saturday filled with trails, tasting rooms, shopping and Central Coast excursions. Cap it off with Sunday brunch and one last “should we stay another night?” stroll around downtown.
With SLO as your homebase away from home, Concerts in the Plaza becomes more than a free show. It’s the opening track of a summer getaway that ends on a high note.
