“Thus, in all these ways, we will transmit this City not only, not less, but greater and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”
The Athenian Oath, as quoted by San Luis Obispo City Manager Katie Lichtig at the Grand Opening of the SLO Skate Park on March 1, 2015, sums up the day beautifully.
An enormous amount of time, effort and passion went into making the skate park a reality for our community. Hundreds turned out to celebrate the milestone that started at a Goal Setting public hearing eight years ago when hundreds of residents advocated that this day, this park would be built. Elected officials, business professionals, community members and skaters of all ages attended the opening ceremony and skated to enthusiastically celebrate the athletic opportunities afforded by the new complex.
“I want to thank every person who did anything from donate their spare change to advocating at a public meeting to make it to this day,” said Spencer Crotty, a skater and former City employee.
There is so much to be proud of in our beautiful City. The new skate park is no exception to what makes this City so exceptional. #ShareSLO
