Concerts in the Plaza & 4th of July Weekend in SLO
Find My HotelYour Fourth of July Homebase
America turns 250 this year, and SLO just happens to be bringing a few birthday candles of its own. Make SLO your homebase away from home for a Fourth of July weekend filled with the Thursday night Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market, free live music, hometown baseball, beach-town fireworks and plenty of reasons to linger longer.
July 4th Weekend: Set It Off in SLO
While Concerts in the Plaza’s 30th Anniversary is a can’t miss celebration, it isn’t the only fun happening in and around town this weekend. It’s not even the only birthday we’re celebrating. Here’s a glimpse of how to Live the SLO Life all weekend long:
Thursday, July 2: Kick off the long weekend at our Thursday Night Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market, one of the country’s longest-running night markets, where five blocks of food, live music, over 100 vendors, local produce galore and downtown energy set the holiday weekend in motion.
Friday, July 3: Keep things moving and grooving at Concerts in the Plaza’s 30th Anniversary Festival, a free block party with five bands, beginning at 2 PM. If it feels like a doubleheader kind of day, swap basses for bases and hit up Sinsheimer Park at 6 PM for the San Luis Obispo Blues’ 80th Anniversary bash, complete with a “Red, White & Blues” fireworks extravaganza.
Saturday, July 4: It’s America’s 250th birthday, and the Central Coast is ready to celebrate. Nearby Avila Beach stacks the morning with a pancake breakfast and its beloved Doggie Parade, while Pismo Beach throws a full day of vendors, live music and a fireworks show off the pier to close the night. Meanwhile, a little farther up the coast, Cayucos goes all-in with a hometown parade and waterfront fireworks.
On Sunday, ease into one last SLO morning with al fresco coffee, brunch or a downtown stroll—and the very real question: “Should we stay another day?” If the answer is yes, we won’t blame you. It’s just a chance to explore a little more of the SLO Life.
Hike Cerro San Luis, cruise an easygoing bike path, or spend the afternoon sipping your way through Edna Valley wine country. When evening arrives, head back to downtown SLO for dinner, drinks or a sweet treat that’s sure to be long-gone before you make it back to your room.
That’s the beauty of spending Fourth of July weekend in SLO. One big event may get you here. Everything else makes you want to stick around for more.

Tune Up Your Taste Buds
Outside food is welcome, so feel free to build your own picnic. Or keep things easy (and delicious) and get your hands on hot, grab-and-go goodness from Woodstock’s Pizza and Quesadilla Gorilla just steps from the music.
If you get thirsty, downtown SLO has you covered with award-winning craft brews from Firestone Walker Brewing Company, wine from Talley Vineyards and fresh-pressed pours from SLO Cider Co., including a tangerine collaboration specially made for the 30th season.
All drinks come in reusable cups or aluminum cans. If you have your own favorite non-glass vessel, feel free to BYO. Need a new go-to? Souvenir cups make a nice little keepsake from a milestone celebration you can raise a glass to for years to come.
Stay In Tune: Book a SLO Stay
Around here, every day can end with an encore. Book a stay in downtown San Luis Obispo, steps from all the action, and make the whole weekend effortless. Friday’s 30th Anniversary Festival, Saturday’s Independence Day adventures, slow Sunday strolls and plenty more where that came from. With SLO as your homebase away from home, you’ll find all kinds of ways to light up your Fourth of July weekend getaway.
SLO Life Tip #43: Party in the Plaza. Find your groove at free Concerts in the Plaza every Friday night, all summer long, right in the heart of downtown.
