Sixth Overall for Well-Being
San Luis Obispo, CA – (Immediate Release) – San Luis Obispo County has the top ranked work environment in the nation according to the recently released Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index Report.
San Luis Obispo tied for sixth in overall Well-Being, a rise from 10th place in last year’s rankings. Key elements of community well-being, such as learning new and interesting things, providing safe places to exercise, routine trips to the dentist and smoking cessation, are all key vanguards of high well-being locations according to the report.
“This is simply another confirmation of what we have known all along, SLO is one of the best places to live, work, study and play in the nation,” said San Luis Obispo Mayor Jan Marx.
Work environment was one of six sub-indexes that were polled during the survey. Workers were surveyed on several factors to gauge their feelings and perceptions about their work environment. San Luis Obispo’s score was 59.1, surpassing last year’s leader Lincoln, NE; the national average is 48.0.
“San Luis Obispo has a history of fostering and attracting businesses that know the value of high employee job satisfaction and positive workplace interactions; they know that happy employees are more productive and, among other benefits, are the best recruiting resource one can have,” said San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ermina Karim. “These rankings continue to validate why San Luis Obispo is such a great place to pursue your passions.”
More than 189 metropolitan areas throughout the nation were polled on six sub-indexes including: emotional health, work environment, life evaluation, physical health, healthy behaviors and access to basic necessities. The overall score and each of the six sub-index scores are calculated on a scale from 0 to 100, where a score of 100 represents the ideal.
Provo-Orem, Utah topped the list of 189 communities that Gallup and Healthways surveyed in 2012-2013. Also in the top 10 are: Boulder, CO, Fort Collins-Loveland, CO, Honolulu, HI, San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA, San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, CA and last year’s leader, Lincoln NE.
