San Luis Obispo Spring Events 2015

San Luis Obispo, CA – San Luis Obispo has an abundance of great culinary, cultural and outdoor events happening this spring. With so many events to choose from there is definitely something for everyone, no matter what your interests.

2015 SLO International Film Festival – March 10-March 15; slofilmfest.org The SLOIFF is excited to welcome Peter Bogdanovich to San Luis Obispo to receive the 21st Annual King Vidor Award for Excellence in Filmmaking. The opening night of the Festival will be playing The Road Within, a unique coming-of-age movie at the Fremont Theatre downtown. This will be followed by four more days and nights of fun and exciting events and films. A full schedule and more information about the events are posted on the website.

Canzona Women’s Concerts of choral music for women’s voices – March 15, 2015; canzonawomen.org With a primary mission of engaging singers and audiences in the celebration of women’s choral repertoire, join the Canzona Women’s Ensemble in their spring concert. The concert takes place on March 15, at 3 p.m. at the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa.

Children’s Day in the Plaza with Passport to the Arts – April 11, 2015; sloartscouncil.org This event is held every year to celebrate April as National Month of the Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month. This is the 37th Annual Children’s Day in the Plaza; this year partnering with Passport to the Arts. This event will bring children and families to the Mission Plaza where there will be engagement booths provided by community organizations that will have hands-on visual, and literary and performing arts activities.

Cal Poly’s Open House – April 16-18; calpoly.edu Showcasing the campus to admitted and current students, alumni, and the San Luis Obispo community, this three-day event is the hard work of a committee of student volunteers in collaboration with the community, student clubs, faculty, and staff. This year is the 22nd Annual Open House; more information is on the website.

Central Coast Arts International Traditional African Music and Dance Performance – April 18, 2015 This is the first SLO Multicultural Music & Dance Showcase featuring five local acts representing the music and dance of various cultures around the world. Taking place at the San Luis Obispo Grange Hall on Broad Street, all ages are welcome at this event, doors open at 3:30 and the show is from 4:00 to 7:00. There will be traditional African food for sale as well as drinks. Come help support culture in SLO!

SLO Marathon – April 24-26; slomarathon.com This is an event for any type of runner, even if it is your first event ever. There are five different races being offered including a marathon, half marathon, 5K, kids quarter mile, and a fun run. The event will take place close to the beautiful Madonna Inn, where there will be many different booths and fun events set up. This is a great activity to participate in no matter what level runner you are, and is fun for kids as well. For more information on the exact schedule and events taking place visit the website.

Flavor of SLO – May 3, 2015; flavorofslo.com Taking place at the historic Jack House and Gardens in downtown San Luis Obispo, enjoy an afternoon of sampling some of the best food, wine and beer you will find on the Central Coast. This event raises thousands of dollars each year to benefit United Way of San Luis Obispo County. Join us this year for the fifth annual!

SLO Jazz Festival – May 16, 2015; slojazzfest.org This is the 2nd Annual SLO Jazz Festival taking place at the Mission de Tolosa in downtown San Luis Obispo. SLO Jazz Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to “Celebrate Jazz and nurture the human spirit, one event at a time.” Tickets will be on sale soon.

Annual Concerts– Central Coast Children’s Choir – May 16-17; centralcoastchildrenschoir.org Choose one of these days in May to see a performance put on by the wonderful Children’s Choir here in San Luis Obispo. With 100 boys and girls ages 6-17 divided into five different choruses, the Central Coast Children’s Choir is highly-respected and is a great asset in SLO County.

San Luis Obispo Concours– May 31, 2015; sanluisobispoconcours.com The San Luis Obispo Concours is showcasing classic, exotic and unique vehicles in this 2015 event in the Madonna Inn Meadows. Two featured Marques have been selected for this year’s event. For more information or specific details visit the website.
