Ride Like A Pro in San Luis Obispo
Cycle the best terrain the Central Coast has to offer on October 20, 2012
San Luis Obispo, CA – (August 29, 2012) - Cyclists of all levels, from professional to amateur, are invited to take part in one of the premier cycling events in California. The 2012 San Luis Obispo (SLO) GranFondo is a long-distance, mass participation cycling event that welcomes riders to discover the diverse riding landscape of California’s Central Coast.
Riders will be introduced to the diverse cycling landscape including a mix of urban, mountain and road cycling unique to San Luis Obispo, while also offering a refreshing bike’s eye view of the area’s distinct attractions including premier wine country, picturesque beaches and state parks, one-of-a-kind monuments such as Hearst Castle.
In addition to the vibrant cycling terrain, the SLO GranFondo offers participants the unique chance to ride alongside professional cyclists from Team SpiderTech. Team SpiderTech is a Canadian-‐based team with 17 professional cyclists and many accolades to their names in recent years.
The SLO GranFondo offers four fully-‐supported routes; choose from a 100‐mile, 75-mile, 50‐mile, or 25‐mile course.
GranFondo: For the more experienced rider, GranFondo participants will enjoy breathtaking scenery while following Team SpiderTech on a challenging but doable course. 100 miles round trip San Luis Obispo up the coast to San Simeon and back.
TreQuarti: Approximately a 75 mile ride combining the best of the scenic coastal GranFondo and MedioFondo routes without the challenging Old Creek Rd climb from Hwy 1 to Hwy 46.
MedioFondo: This approximately 50 mile course shares the same routes as the Gran ondo but returns after reaching the beautiful coastal town of Cayucos. This is a good ride for enthusiasts who want the chance to ride with the pros, improve upon times, and challenge themselves, their friends and teammates.
PiccoloFondo: Just over a 25 mile loop through rolling countryside which unfolds onto the picturesque Morro Bay estuary. This is perfect for riders wanting to experience the beauty of the Central Coast but prefer to avoid the climbs and leave the challenging distance treks for the pros.
Beginning and ending in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, cyclist will enjoy post-ride festivities through the SLO GranFondo Expo. The expo includes meet and greet activities with the pros, food trucks, live music and activities. Fun for the whole family, the expo is open to the public from 11am‐4pm.
The SLO GranFondo event is a benefit to the Alpha Pregnancy and Parenting Support Organization as well as to the Hearst Cancer Resource Center, part of French Hospital Medical Center. All proceeds from the event go toward supporting these organizations.
