Explore San Luis Obispo this Fall
San Luis Obispo is an undiscovered gem for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco along California’s beautiful Central Coast, SLO is an ideal place for a relaxing but active getaway. The magnificent Santa Lucia mountain range, pristine coastline, and near-perfect year-round weather, make SLO a great spot for hiking, biking, horseback riding and golf this fall.
In the greenbelt that surrounds the city, one of the most popular and challenging hiking spots is 1,292-foot Cerro San Luis mountain, part of a chain of volcanic peaks dubbed the Seven Sisters that leads out to the Pacific Ocean at Morro Bay. A trip to the summit rewards hikers and rock-climbers with sweeping views of the entire city.
For a more moderate climb, the 3.5 mile Johnson Trail loop meanders among 242 acres of protected open space in the Irish Hills Natural Reserve. The reserve is laced with a network of trails that connect to the hills of Prefumo Canyon. Whether you are looking for a tough mountain bike trail or an easy stroll through downtown, SLO is the place to find it. Bike rentals are available and affordable. Experienced cyclists can ride out to Lopez Lake and cool off at one of our local breweries on your way back to SLO while less seasoned cyclists can easily explore San Luis Obispo wine country and stop along the way to taste at the more than 20 wineries and tasting rooms.
Channel your inner cowboy or cowgirl with Madonna Inn Trail Rides and explore Cerro San Luis on a guided outing. There are different rides geared toward families, couples and more experienced riders.
No matter what kind of activities you are looking for, you are guaranteed to find them in SLO. Whether you are looking to get a good workout in, or simply enjoy easy outdoor activities, SLO is the place to come visit.
