San Luis Obispo County Farmers Markets

San Luis Obispo County, with our robust agricultural and cattle ranching heritage, is renowned for locally grown sustenance, and we back that up with seven days of farmers markets. In San Luis Obispo alone there are three throughout the week, not counting the Thursday night granddaddy of them all.

For more than 30 years San Luis Obispo has converted Higuera Street into six blocks of legendary street fair.

Every Thursday, like clockwork, merchants rollout their tables, booths and oversized barbecue pits on wheels, prepare their farm fresh produce, flowers, pulled pork and tri-tip sandwiches, and wait for the whistle signaling the start of the second largest farmers market in the western United States.

SLO is not alone. Farmers markets are hosted throughout the county, each unique in its own right. Whether you’re looking for seafood fresh off the boat or hot off the grill, you’ll find it in Avila Beach or Morro Bay. Known as the chef’s market, Templeton is where locals get a preview of their favorite chef’s menu for the week ahead. The SLO weekend markets are where you can get some of the best cooking tips from the growers themselves. So no matter what day you arrive, you are guaranteed to find the freshest foods at one of our many markets and restaurants.
