And just outside downtown is the Madonna Inn, a riot of pink, carved wood and stone walls where every room has its own over-the-top theme and a surprise awaits in the downstairs men’s bathroom |

The chiming bells of Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa resonate through the heart of the city daily and remind us all of the rich history this city holds. This creekside mission was founded 238 years ago by Father Junipero Serra.
Standing on its steps, it’s easy to picture the diverse cultures that shaped the city’s history, from the native Chumash people, Anglo pioneers, and Chinese laborers to the Victorian merchants, European immigrants and 20th-century entrepreneurs.
Walk around the historic Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa – the fifth founded by Junipero Serra in California – and Mission Plaza then wander the paths around San Luis Creek. |
