There are plenty of free things to do to keep you busy and entertained! Here are a few: |
Stroll the Thursday evening Farmers Market, when fruit and vegetable, flower and nut, food and information booths and performers take over Higuera Street, turning downtown in a weekly pedestrian parade. You probably won’t get out of there without buying some juicy strawberries, roasted corn on a stick or a fresh bouquet, but we doubt you’ll mind. |
Take a hike. San Luis Obispo has some amazing trails in its open spaces and natural reserves. Throw on your sneakers, grab a camera and head out. See maps of trails here. |
Check out two of San Luis Obispo’s funkiest attractions. Just off Higuera Street downtown, between Garden and Broad streets, is Bubblegum Alley, where you can make your own contribution for a quarter. And just outside downtown is the Madonna Inn, a riot of pink, carved wood and stone walls where every room has its own over-the-top theme and a surprise awaits in the downstairs men’s bathroom |
Walk around the historic Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa – the fifth founded by Junipero Serra in California – and Mission Plaza then wander the paths around San Luis Creek. |
Catch some music at one of the free Concerts in the Plaza, held every Friday in summer (June through August). |
Browse local art galleries on the first Friday of each month during Art After Dark, when the galleries hold open houses, unveil exhibits, bring in special guests and more. |
Pedal your way around town, tackle some trails or coast through nearby wine country on a self-guided bicycle tour. Find the maps you need here.
